Setup G Suite (formerly Google Apps)

G Suite is the new name for Google Apps.

After you sign up with G Suite, Google provides you the verification code in the G Suite Setup Wizard (on the Verify your domain and set up email page).  See screenshot below.

You will need to verify your domain name so that you can use Google Apps and for your emails to work.

Domain verification process will include adding your verification code and updating your domain's MX mail server records to point to Google.

Verify Domain through TXT Record

On the above screenshot, "Verify your domain and set up email" page, click the "Choose a different method" drop-down list and select Add a domain host record (TXT or CNAME).

The setup steps are as follows:

  1. Get Verification code
  2. Add Verification record to your domain's DNS settings
  3. Update your domain's MX Records on your Plesk Panel
  4. Tell Google to verify your domain

We will describe each step in detail below.

1. Get Verification Code

After you choose the Add a domain host record (TXT or CNAME) option, you will see the verification code which looks like this:

google-site-verification= [followed by a unique string of text and numbers]

Google TXT Verification code

Please make sure to copy the whole verification code from google-site-verification (entire string of text and numbers).

2. Add Verification code to your domain's DNS settings

Please follow the steps below on how to add the TXT record to your domain in Plesk:

  1. Log in to your Plesk Panel

  3. Click the domain name
  4. Click DNS Settings
  5. Click Add Record
  6. Select TXT in the dropdown list for Record type

Add TXT record

3. Update your domain's MX Records on your Plesk Panel

You will now need to set up various DNS records in Plesk in order to configure your domain's mail to be routed to Google's servers.

Given that your domain's nameservers are already pointing to our network, here are the steps on how to update your domain's MX mail server records in Plesk:

  1. Login to your Plesk Panel
  2. Click Websites & Domains
  3. Click the domain name
  4. Click DNS Settings
  5. On the listed DNS records, remove our default MX record before adding Google's MX records.

    Remove our default mx record

  6. Once the default MX record has been removed, you will need to add new MX records with the values below (note: these values may change so please refer to Google's own G Suite setup instructions for the current/up-to-date values):

    Google MX records

  7. Click Add Record

  8. Select MX in the dropdown list for Record type
  9. Leave Mail domain empty/blank
  10. Set Mail exchange server to the mail exchange server shown in the table above
  11. Click OK button to save the changes.
  12. Repeat steps 7-11 for each of the MX records as shown in the table above
  13. Once you have added all the MX records, click on the "Update" button to update the DNS zone and apply the changes.

Please note that any DNS changes that you make may take a few hours to take effect and fully propagate.

4. Tell Google to verify your domain

To complete the domain verification process, you need to tell Google to verify your domain.

  1. Return to the Setup Wizard on the G Suite website.
  2. Check the I saved the TXT verification record or the I have saved the TXT record box.
  3. Please continue following the onscreen steps in the Setup Wizard. Once you have completed all the steps, click Verify.

Please note that TXT record changes can take up to 24 to 48 hours to propagate, but it usually takes effect much quicker (eg within 1-2 hours).

After domain verification, you can then start using Gmail, Drive, and all the other services included with your G Suite account.
